Personalization principles are very important in designing an effective multimedia presentation because it aids in the student learning. This principle brings a humanistic feel to the presentation. A more personal and casual instructional learning environment is created based on the needs of the target audience as well as the training topic. Conversational style of writing is used rather than formal academic writing. An on-screen coach speaking with a friendly human voice is used to make the author more visible, which promotes motivation for the learner. It would be appropriate for the on-screen coach to use "you" and "I" words throughout the presentation. This helps the learner to feel more supported and they are more likely to become deeply engaged with the author as their guide.

Worked Example:

In reviewing the wiki tutorial I was able to identify some principles of personalization. The tutorial can be retrieved at http://wiki.wetpaint.com/page/wiki+widgets

Clicking on Wiki Defined I located two YouTube tutorials defining Wiki in two very different ways. It was a comical depiction of how many common folk have no idea of what this new WIKI language actually is describing. The second YouTube was a more serious review of Wiki as a portal for quick learning with depth and multiple hyperlinks to other pages for information. Both were short segments with a very humanistic view point and casual language geared directly to learner interested in learning more about Wiki. Both were very engaging and the visable author narrating the guided tour used great tone and voice control. As the learner, I walked away from the experience knowing more about Wiki's than I did prior to the viewing.
